Wynonna Judd releases autobiographical album ‘The Hard Truth’

Wynonna Judd has released a new album titled ‘The Hard Truth’, which features a significant amount of autobiographical songwriting. Unlike much of her previous work, Judd wrote or co-wrote nine of the album's ten tracks as a means of processing traumatic life events.

A central theme of the record is the death of her mother and former Judds bandmate, Naomi Judd, who died by suicide in 2022. Judd described the songwriting process as a way to work through pain, noting that certain songs, such as ‘All Downhill From Ashland’, deal directly with her complex emotions regarding her mother. Judd admitted that singing about these feelings was difficult, expressing both love and anger regarding the circumstances of her mother's passing.
