Wynsors to close 17 UK stores amid retail downsizing

Wynsors, a footwear retailer operating since 1956, has announced the permanent closure of 17 stores across the United Kingdom. This reduction represents approximately one-third of the company’s 47 total locations.

The closures will affect branches in several cities, including Crewe, Leeds, Sheffield, Wakefield, Fleetwood, Burnley, Oldham, Salford, Bury, Rochdale, Hanley, Birkenhead, Bootle, Bacup, Bolton, Gateshead, and Sunderland. The decision follows reports that the company’s owner, Modella, had been evaluating cuts to employment and rent expenses earlier this summer.

While physical locations are closing, Wynsors will continue its operations through its online store. Some affected branches, such as those in Hanley, Rochdale, and Crewe, have launched liquidation sales to clear remaining stock, with discounts reaching up to 50 percent. The Crewe branch is expected to cease operations by the end of September.
