Wyoming 2026 U.S. House Primary Crowded as Incumbent Hageman Runs for Senate

Wyoming's 2026 primary election for its lone U.S. House seat is set for Aug. 18, with the general election slated for Nov. 3. Incumbent Representative Harriet Hageman, first elected in 2022, is leaving the House race to run for the U.S. Senate seat of retiring Senator Cynthia Lummis.

The open House seat has attracted nine Republican candidates and two Democrats, plus independent Daniel Workman. Notable Republicans include Secretary of State Chuck Gray, former State Superintendent Jillian Balow, Senate President Bo Biteman, and former legislator Keith Goodenough, who has switched parties. Democrats Lisa Kinney and Elena Del Real are the only two from their party. Other names mentioned are Reid Rasner, Steve Friess (son of the late donor Foster Friess), and former candidate Frank Chapman, who withdrew.

Wyoming has not elected a Democrat to Congress since 1976, and the GOP holds a strong advantage in the state. One candidate from each party will advance from the primary to the November general election.
