Wyoming candidate Rebecca Bextel alleges taxpayer-funded housing scam
Wyoming gubernatorial candidate Rebecca Bextel, running under the Constitution Party, has alleged that taxpayer funds are being misused to benefit out-of-state and international private equity firms through affordable housing developments.
During an interview, Bextel claimed that projects funded via the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit Program allow developers to avoid property taxes while being owned by external entities. She specifically identified the Japanese private equity firm ORIX as the owner of two buildings in Natrona County.
Bextel also raised concerns regarding the town of Jackson, stating that a 99-year lease granted to developers for affordable housing could impact the historic Jackson Hole Rodeo. She announced intentions to sue the town over what she described as “over three million missing dollars” related to a $24 million project.
