Wyoming Cowboys Move to Indoor Practice and Overhaul Offense for 2024 Season

Head coach Jay Sawvel announced that the University of Wyoming football team will conduct its fall practices indoors, abandoning the natural‑grass North 40 fields that have been used in recent seasons. The decision follows a series of non‑contact injuries on the grass surface and concerns about wildfire smoke affecting air quality on the high plains.

Sawvel also revealed a major offensive revamp. He hired former Buffalo Bills assistant Christian Taylor as offensive coordinator and added graduate‑transfer quarterback Tyler Hughes from William & Mary. Several players departed via graduation, the transfer portal or free agency, while the team retained running back Samuel "Tote" Harris. The coach said the goal is to raise scoring to about 28 points per game and improve overall competitiveness for the upcoming season.
