Wyoming Freedom Caucus loses majority following August primaries

In the August primary elections in Wyoming, liberal donors, advocacy groups, and corporate interests contributed to the defeat of several conservative candidates and members of the Freedom Caucus. These groups supported left-leaning Republican candidates to run against Trump-endorsed and Freedom Caucus-aligned individuals.

The Wyoming Freedom Caucus lost its majority in the state House following the defeat of 13 incumbent members, while four additional Freedom Caucus-aligned members lost their state Senate bids. Notable losses included Wyoming state House Speaker Chip Neiman, who lost his state Senate bid, and Megan Degenfelder, a Trump-backed gubernatorial candidate who was defeated by Eric Barlow.

Chip Neiman stated that organizations such as the Wyoming Donor Alliance focused on ousting conservatives to shift the state’s political direction. He described the effort as an organized machine involving significant organizational spending and media connections.
