Wyoming migration corridor protected for pronghorn herd

A combination of public and private conservation efforts has secured a critical bottleneck in the ‘Path of the Pronghorn’ migration route in Wyoming. The protection covers nearly all acreage where the Sublette Pronghorn Herd crosses the New Fork River, a site previously vulnerable to oil and gas drilling.

The initiative involved the state of Wyoming designating the migration corridor and the establishment of a conservation easement on private land. This private protection includes the 233-acre Wild Horse Ranch, which was previously at risk of subdivision and development. Kerry Schultz of the Jackson Hole Land Trust noted that the transition of both state and private parcels from vulnerable to secure represents a significant victory for wildlife preservation.
