Wyoming officials warn of high bear activity during hunting season

As hunting season approaches in Wyoming, wildlife officials are emphasizing the importance of bear awareness. Dr. Dan Thompson, the Large Carnivore Supervisor for the Wyoming Game and Fish Department (WGFD), reports high levels of bear activity across the state this year.

To minimize potential conflicts, the WGFD advises individuals to expect bears in unexpected locations, noting that bears often move to lower elevations during the fall as natural food sources become limited. Safety recommendations include carrying easily accessible, EPA-approved bear spray and exercising caution near seasonal food sources like berry patches or areas where scavengers such as ravens are present.
