Wyoming organizations launch campaign against property tax cut

A coalition of teachers, hospital leaders, and realtors has launched a $1 million campaign to oppose a proposed property tax ballot measure in Wyoming. The initiative, which gained momentum through a successful citizen petition, seeks to cut residential property taxes by 50%.

In Teton County, the state’s wealthiest county, the median homeowner pays approximately $6,312 annually in property taxes. Proponents of the measure argue that the cut would provide necessary relief for retirees on fixed incomes and residents facing rising costs.

Opponents, including the Wyoming Education Association and the Wyoming Hospital Association, warn that the reduction could cost the state between $92.6 million and $124.7 million annually. They argue these cuts would strain budgets for essential services, including first responders and community infrastructure.
