Wyoming proposes bill to allow voter recall of city officials
A proposed bill for the 2027 Wyoming Legislature session would grant voters the power to recall municipal officials serving four-year terms. Currently under consideration by the Corporations, Elections, and Political Subdivisions Committee, the measure outlines specific signature requirements to trigger a recall election based on the number of eligible voters.
For jurisdictions with 2,500 or fewer voters, 40 percent of eligible voters must sign a petition. For those between 2,500 and 10,000, 25 percent is required, and for populations exceeding 10,000, the threshold is 15 percent. Each petition must include a general statement of reasons and can only target one official at a time.
If a petition is certified, a recall election would be scheduled within 91 to 120 days. While the current draft focuses on city officials, State Representative Ann Lucas has expressed interest in amending the bill to include county commissioners.
