Wyoming Republican Gubernatorial Candidates Barlow and Degenfelder Discuss Energy, Public Lands and Affordability
Republican candidates for Wyoming governor, State Senator Eric Barlow and Superintendent of Public Instruction Megan Degenfelder, addressed voters at a forum hosted by Casper College. Both highlighted their Wyoming heritage—Barlow, a fourth‑generation ranch‑hand, Marine veteran, veterinarian and businessman, and Degenfelder, a sixth‑generation ranch‑kid with a University of Wyoming education and experience in the coal, oil and gas sectors. The discussion focused on the state’s energy future, public‑land management and the "brain drain" of young residents, with Degenfelder emphasizing affordability as a key challenge for Wyoming families.
The forum took place as the Republican primary approaches on Aug. 18, after which the nominee will face Democrat Kenneth Casner and Constitution Party candidate Rebecca Bextel in the November general election. Incumbent Governor Mark Gordon is completing his second and final term.
Barlow noted his long service in the Wyoming Legislature since 2013, including a stint as House speaker, while Degenfelder outlined her education‑reform agenda stemming from her tenure leading the state’s Department of Education since 2022.
