Wyoming student test scores reach prepandemic levels

Wyoming’s standardized testing scores have rebounded, reaching or exceeding prepandemic levels across science, math, and language arts for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic. Wyoming Superintendent of Public Education Megan Degenfelder announced the results for the 2025-26 Wyoming Test of Proficiency and Progress (WY-TOPP) and the Wyoming Alternate Assessment.

According to the education department, student proficiency increased by 1.6% in English language arts, 4.1% in math, and 1.3% in science compared to the previous year. Degenfelder attributed these gains to a statewide focus on literacy reform and collaborative efforts between policymakers, administrators, and teachers.

Additionally, school performance rankings showed improvement, with 75% of schools serving students in grades 3-8 meeting or exceeding achievement standards, marking a 5% increase.
