Wyong, Australia mother charged with murder of 4‑year‑old amid cannibalism investigation

A 32‑year‑old woman voluntarily presented herself at Wyong Police Station on the NSW Central Coast on 4 July 2026. Police welfare officers were dispatched to her home on Byron Street, where they discovered the body of her 4‑year‑old son with severe arm injuries. Superintendent Chad Gillies described the scene as “extremely confronting”. The woman was arrested and charged with murder and domestic‑violence‑related homicide; bail was denied and a further hearing is set for 1 September.

Investigators are also examining a possible act of cannibalism after the mother allegedly told officers she had eaten part of the child. Forensic teams have taken samples from the suspect and seized her vehicle and other items for analysis. An independent review of child‑protection procedures has been announced by NSW Families Minister Kate Washington. The case has shocked the Wyong community and attracted national media attention.
