X explores stablecoin integration for content creator payments
Elon Musk’s social media platform, X, is exploring the use of stablecoins, such as USDC, as a primary method for paying content creators. While the plans are in early stages and implementation details are not yet confirmed, the move is intended to facilitate faster and more cost-effective payouts, particularly for cross-border transactions.
Currently, X settles creator rewards through Stripe Express Accounts linked to local bank accounts or debit cards. In certain US states, creators can also use X Money accounts to receive funds directly into the app for use via X Visa cards.
Transitioning to a stablecoin model could support X’s goal of becoming an ‘everyday app’ for its 550 million monthly users. If implemented, the scale of the system could significantly increase USDC liquidity and on-chain transaction activity, as X would need to mint large blocks of fiat-backed stablecoins to manage bi-weekly payments to a global creator base.
