X (formerly Twitter) introduces option to stop video autoplay

X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, now offers a setting that lets users prevent videos from playing automatically. The option is found under Settings & privacy → Accessibility, display and languages → Data Usage → Autoplay, where selecting “Never” disables video autoplay on both desktop and mobile devices.

The change stops videos from auto‑playing but does not remove video posts entirely, and users may still encounter still images or screenshots. The guide also lists resources for users who encounter disturbing content, including Crisis Text Line, the 988 lifeline, Samaritans, and the Safer Internet Centre.
