X faces cyberattacks and shifts creator payouts to X Money
X is facing a wave of coordinated cyberattacks following the rollout of its new financial service, X Money. Users have reported receiving massive volumes of unsolicited password-reset emails, a tactic attackers are using to attempt unauthorized account access by leveraging public usernames.
X product engineer Mridul Singhai stated that the company is investigating the activity and has found no evidence of successful account breaches or system compromises. U.S. Attorney General Todd Blanche noted that the Justice Department is working with X to track down the criminals responsible for the attempt to hijack hundreds of thousands of accounts.
In a separate strategic move, X announced that it is shifting all U.S.-based creator payouts—including Original Content Rewards and subscriptions—from Stripe to its own X Money platform. This transition aims to provide creators with instant access to funds, removing previous two-week settlement cycles and minimum withdrawal thresholds. While U.S. creators are being moved to the internal system, creators outside the United States will continue to be paid via Stripe.
