X suspends Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Seri's account

The social media platform X has suspended the account of Yahya Seri, the military spokesperson for the Houthi movement in Yemen. Seri’s account, which had approximately 121,500 followers, was used as a primary channel to announce Houthi military operations, including attacks in the Red Sea and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, as well as strikes against the militaries of Yemen and Saudi Arabia.

Users attempting to access the profile encountered a notification stating, “Account suspended. X suspends accounts that violate X rules,” though no specific reason for the suspension was provided.

The suspension removes a significant direct communication tool for the Houthis regarding their regional activities. The group has maintained control over Sanaa and various other regions in Yemen since 2014. Tensions in the region remain high following recent incidents, including a July airstrike on a runway in Sanaa and subsequent Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia’s Abha Airport and maritime restrictions on Saudi vessels.
