Xabi Alonso outlines long-term vision for Chelsea revival

Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has stated that returning the club to the summit of English and European football will require patience and a clearly defined long-term project rather than immediate success through heavy spending.

In an interview with Jamie Carragher, Alonso explained that while the club possesses a strong foundation, adjustments and strategic signings are necessary to improve balance and competitiveness. He emphasized that building a side capable of consistent high-level competition cannot be achieved in a single season, noting that the initial campaign is vital for establishing the project's foundations.

Alonso also indicated an interest in reuniting with former Bayer Leverkusen player Florian Wirtz. Reports suggest that Alonso has instructed Chelsea to monitor the situation regarding the German midfielder, who is currently at Liverpool, as the club looks to bolster its squad for future ambitions.
