Xabi Alonso rejects free agent signings for Chelsea amid midfield injury concerns
Chelsea head coach Xabi Alonso has rejected suggestions that the club will sign free agents to address midfield shortages. The decision follows the collapse of a deal for Lamine Camara from AS Monaco and the departure of Enzo Fernandez to Manchester City. Alonso stated that while the club has looked at options, they will not pursue free agents, opting instead to rely on players such as Romeo Lavia, Valentin Barco, and natural full-backs Reece James and Malo Gusto.
Adding to the squad's challenges, Moises Caicedo is dealing with a recurring calf injury. Caicedo will miss the upcoming Carabao Cup match against Leeds United as a precautionary measure.
Despite these setbacks, a poll of nearly 500 supporters suggests optimism regarding the club's direction under Alonso. Fans expressed confidence in the team's ability to qualify for the Champions League, potentially aided by the lack of midweek European fixtures which allows for increased recovery time.
