xAI and Stability AI sued over AI‑generated child sexual abuse deepfakes

An amended class‑action lawsuit was filed in the U.S. Northern District of California against xAI and Stability AI. The complaint adds two new plaintiffs who say the Grok app from xAI used their childhood photographs to create thousands of sexually explicit deepfake images, which were then distributed online. The suit also accuses Stability AI of releasing open‑weight models trained on child sexual abuse material (CSAM) without adequate safeguards, enabling third‑party “nudify” applications.

The plaintiffs allege that xAI repeatedly failed to submit complete reports to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, omitting AI‑generated CSAM images and user IP data, thereby obstructing law‑enforcement investigations. The complaint seeks accountability for the alleged reckless deployment of AI technology capable of producing explicit deepfakes of minors.
