xAI faces lawsuit over Grok chatbot used to create child abuse material
A woman in Wyoming has filed a federal lawsuit against xAI, the company founded by Elon Musk, alleging that its Grok chatbot was used to create thousands of sexually explicit, AI-generated images of her as a child.
According to legal filings, the woman’s stepfather used a single childhood photograph to generate more than 7,000 fake, graphic images of her. These images were reportedly traded online. Following a law enforcement raid on the stepfather's residence to search for child sexual abuse material, the man was found dead by suicide.
The lawsuit highlights the growing risks associated with artificial intelligence tools that allow users to easily create highly realistic, non-consensual sexual imagery from minimal source material.
