xAI launches Grok 4.5 coding‑focused AI model

On July 8 2026, xAI (operating under the SpaceXAI brand) released Grok 4.5, its first model explicitly built for software development and agentic tasks. The model runs on a 1.5‑trillion‑parameter V9 foundation and was trained on real developer‑session traces from the Cursor IDE, marking a shift toward trace‑informed, domain‑specific training. Grok 4.5 offers a 500 k‑token context window, a per‑call reasoning‑effort dial, and speeds up to 80 tokens per second.

The company says the model can generate complete applications from a text prompt, handle complex languages such as Rust and C/C++, and produce advanced Excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint decks, and Word documents via its Grok Build integration. Pricing is set at $2 per million input tokens and $6 per million output tokens, making it roughly three to four times cheaper per token than competing models. Training leveraged tens of thousands of NVIDIA GPUs and extensive reinforcement‑learning on software‑engineering tasks. Grok 4.5 is available through the Grok Build platform, Cursor subscriptions, and the SpaceXAI developer console.
