Xalapa City Council approves decree to eliminate political immunity

The Xalapa City Council, led by Mayor Daniela Griego Ceballos, has approved a draft decree to reform Article 78 of the Political Constitution of the State of Veracruz.

The reform aims to eliminate political immunity (fuero) for specific municipal officials. This change would remove the requirement for a declaration of procedence, allowing criminal proceedings to move forward against municipal presidents, members of municipal councils, and syndics without prior legislative authorization.
