Xalapa establishes Municipal Sports Committee to boost local athletics
The municipal government of Xalapa, Veracruz, inaugurated the Municipal Sports Committee (Comude) in a ceremony led by Mayor Daniela Griego Ceballos. Griego highlighted the city's long‑standing sports promotion policy, noting investments in infrastructure, organization of events such as the Mundialito Social football tournament, and support for a wide range of leagues and athletes.
The committee, chaired by Director of Physical Culture Rafael Manuel Herrera Moguel, will oversee projects outlined in the 2026 General Investment Program, including the rehabilitation of eight sports fields, the Parque Deportivo Colón, and the Paseo de los Lagos. Additional initiatives feature Zumba classes, youth sport workshops, and the maintenance of more than 100 public sports facilities. The State Education Physical Education Director Froylán Mejía Ávila pledged institutional backing, emphasizing inter‑agency collaboration to promote healthy, inclusive community participation.
