Xalapa mayor Daniela Griego expands waste‑separation program and public works

The municipal government of Xalapa, Veracruz, led by Mayor Daniela Griego Ceballos, is advancing a waste‑separation strategy at the Central de Abastos. With support from local merchants and the Association of Producers, the city has reactivated the composting centre, deployed two specialised vehicles for organic and inorganic waste, and is producing compost for gardens, nurseries and community centres. “Gracias a este proyecto se cuenta actualmente con herramientas clave para llevar a cabo este proceso,” said association president Miguel Ángel Domínguez Roa.

In parallel, Xalapa opened a call to create a new tourism services catalogue, seeking to register at least 100 businesses by 30 August, covering hotels, restaurants, travel agencies and event suppliers. The mayor also reported that ten public‑works projects have been inaugurated, 22 are under construction and more are awaiting administrative approval. Ongoing programmes include road pothole repairs, drainage cleaning, animal sterilisation campaigns, women’s health services, literacy classes, and the “Saca tu basura al toque de campana” initiative to keep streets clean during the rainy season. “Hasta el día de ayer se han inaugurado 10 obras de pavimentación…,” the mayor noted.
