Xalapa Mayor Daniela Griego Shows Strong Approval, Expands Citizen Services

A recent Demoscopia poll ordered by La Jornada placed Xalapa mayor Daniela Griego Ceballos at the top of Veracruz municipal leaders with a 63.7% approval rating, the highest among the state’s mayors and ranking 15th among Morena mayors nationally. The survey noted that her support has remained stable throughout the year, hovering around the low‑sixties.

During the town’s Día del Pueblo celebration at the Las Minas community centre, Griego highlighted her administration’s citizen‑request program, which has processed 1,530 petitions in the first six months of her term, addressing issues such as public works, lighting, sanitation, water, and social services. Of those requests, 989 were submitted by women, mainly heads of families. The city has completed 14 public‑work projects so far and is continuing infrastructure upgrades in neighborhoods like Las Palmas.

The mayor also launched the "Saca tu basura al toque de campana" campaign, a waste‑collection initiative operating in 16 community centres to improve solid‑waste management and prevent drainage blockages during the rainy season. The event included free services such as rabies vaccinations for pets, physiotherapy, nutrition counseling, contraceptive distribution, civil‑registry assistance, and legal advice.
