Xalapa mayor inaugurates public works project and launches 2026 youth council contests

The Xalapa municipal government inaugurated its fifth integrated public‑works project in the Jardines de Bambú neighborhood, covering Prolongación Ravel and the Andador Colibrí. The works, financed with roughly 1.5 million pesos, include new sidewalks, ramps, tactile guidance, and public lighting, and were completed in 55 days. Mayor Daniela Griego highlighted the plan to use public resources responsibly and to improve residents’ quality of life.

In a separate announcement, the municipal Youth Directorate opened applications for the 2026 Cabildo Juvenil (Youth Council) and the Municipal Youth Award. The calls are open to people aged 15‑29, including residents who have lived in Xalapa for at least six months. The award will recognise projects in seven areas—science and technology, environment, health, leadership and human rights, culture, entrepreneurship, and sport—offering training and monetary incentives. Both initiatives are presented as part of the administration’s effort to engage and empower the city’s younger population.
