Xalapa mayor launches sanitation overhaul and bridge safety project

Mayor Daniela Griego Ceballos inaugurated a municipal sanitation rehabilitation in the Infonavit Pomona neighborhood of Xalapa. The project, funded with nearly 5 million pesos by the Comisión Municipal de Agua Potable y Saneamiento (CMAS), will replace 790 metres of sewer line, install 21 manholes and 170 registers, and directly benefit more than 800 residents. Work is expected to finish within 150 days, with completion slated for December.

Separately, municipal director of Urban Development Aldo Ponce Ramírez reported that the city is finalising a bridge‑safety scheme in the Xallitic “Barrio Mágico”. The plan involves installing protective elements on the bridge’s upper structure and cleaning up aerial cable installations, aiming to deter suicide attempts. The project will be presented to local residents and a neighborhood committee, with an anticipated approval by August.
