Xalapa to map neighborhoods for installation of 100 free community alarms

The municipal government of Xalapa, Veracruz, will conduct a city‑wide mapping to select neighborhoods where the first 100 community‑alarm devices will be installed. The alarms, provided at no cost to residents, will be placed in areas with the highest perceived insecurity, mobility and crime incidence, such as the city centre, the Revolución district and other northern sectors. Each device functions as a panic button that emits a loud audible alert, notifying nearby citizens and the police of an emergency.

The mapping process will consider roughly 30‑40 neighborhood applications already received, applying criteria to determine eligibility. Installation could begin within about two weeks, and the authorities say the pilot will be evaluated for possible expansion to additional alarms if it proves effective.
