Hellenic Red Cross hosts dog first aid training for World Dog Day

To mark World Dog Day on August 26, the Hellenic Red Cross organized several public awareness and training events across Greece focused on canine first aid.

In Athens, the organization held an interactive demonstration at Syntagma Square. Specialized instructors provided training on critical emergency procedures, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), managing airway obstructions, treating hemorrhages, and recognizing signs of heatstroke or poisoning. The initiative aimed to educate pet owners on how to stabilize animals before professional veterinary care can be reached.

Similar educational activities were conducted in Thessaloniki, where the regional branch held an open session near the Agia Sophia metro station to teach citizens about emergency response and the essential contents of a portable pet first aid kit.

Beyond practical training, the day served as a platform to promote responsible pet ownership, the importance of animal adoption, and the unique emotional bond between humans and dogs.
