Xanthi to mark 107th anniversary of liberation with three-day program
The city of Xanthi (İskeçe) will hold a three-day series of commemorative events from October 2 to 4 to mark the 107th anniversary of its incorporation into Greece in 1919. The program includes religious ceremonies, memorial services, concerts, and military activities.
On Friday, October 2, the commemorations will feature anniversary speeches at schools, a wreath-laying ceremony at the Monument to the Fallen, and a symbolic procession titled “In the Footsteps of the Liberation.” This procession will follow the historical route of the army's entry into the city, concluding with the raising of a liberation flag on the clock tower in Republic Square.
The main anniversary events are scheduled for Sunday, October 4, featuring a military and student parade. Deputy Minister of National Defence Thanasis Davakis will attend the parade to represent the Greek government. Other scheduled activities include vespers services at the Church of Hagia Sophia and musical performances by the Xanthi Municipal Choir and the Saint Matthew Philharmonic Society of Corfu.
