Xanthi's Basiodis Tobacco Warehouse to become Timeless Museum

The Central Council of Modern Monuments has approved the restoration studies for the historic Basiodis tobacco warehouse in Xanthi, paving the way for its transformation into the Timeless Museum of Xanthi. The building, located at the intersection of Avdiron 50 and Elli streets, was transferred to the Ministry of Culture in 2025 by the Region of East Macedonia and Thrace.

Constructed in the late 19th century, the 616-square-meter neoclassical industrial structure features a significant internal wooden framework. The restoration project aims to preserve the building's architectural authenticity and industrial heritage while integrating modern museum requirements for safety and accessibility.

The museum will showcase Xanthi's history from prehistory to modern times. This initiative is expected to create a new cultural hub in the city, potentially forming a 'museum neighborhood' alongside adjacent historical industrial buildings.
