Xavi Espart promoted to FC Barcelona first team

La Masia academy graduate Xavi Espart has been promoted to the FC Barcelona first team, officially taking the number 12 shirt. The 19-year-old defender has impressed manager Hansi Flick with his versatility, demonstrating the ability to play as a right-back, left-back, defensive midfielder, or central midfielder.

Following a successful pre-season and a clean-sheet performance in the La Liga opener against Elche, Espart has become a regular fixture in the starting lineup. While his inclusion as a left-back against Athletic Club drew mixed reactions from some supporters concerned about his matchup against experienced attackers, Hansi Flick has praised his tactical intelligence, composure, and technical ability, comparing his potential to that of Philipp Lahm.
