Xavi Hernández names Netherlands squad for Nations League

New Netherlands national team coach Xavi Hernández has announced his squad selection for the upcoming Nations League group stage matches. The selection features several changes, notably the exclusion of FC Twente striker Wout Weghorst and Feyenoord midfielder Luciano Valente.

Addressing the absence of Weghorst during a press conference, Hernández stated that while the striker is not on the current list, “the door is still open.” He noted that the team has various tactical options with existing forwards and wingers. Regarding Valente, the coach mentioned that the player is being monitored despite the current squad depth in midfield.

The squad includes players such as Virgil van Dijk, Nathan Aké, and Cody Gakpo. The Netherlands is scheduled to face Germany in their first Nations League match on Thursday, September 24, at 20:45 at the Johan Cruijff Arena in Amsterdam. This fixture is part of an extended international period during which the Netherlands will also face Serbia and Greece.
