Former Barcelona Coach Xavi Hernandez Targets National Team Role

Former Barcelona player and manager Xavi Hernández, 46, said his next coaching step could be with a national team. In an interview with RNE he explained that a national‑team job would give him more time with his family, noting, “I have small children and a club would not allow me to spend that much time with them.”

Hernández left Barcelona in May 2024 after a three‑year spell that included a 2022/23 La Liga title, a Supercopa de España and a record 90 wins in 143 matches (62 % win rate). He previously coached Qatar’s Al Sadd, winning seven trophies.

He expressed ambition to coach at major tournaments, citing the World Cup, the European Championship, the Africa Cup of Nations and the Asian Cup. The former Spain midfielder, who was part of Spain’s 2010 World Cup‑winning side, is currently without a club and is being linked with various national‑team appointments.
