Xavier Becerra widens lead in California governor's race
A new poll from the Public Policy Institute of California (PPIC) shows Democratic candidate Xavier Becerra widening his lead in the California gubernatorial race. According to the survey conducted between September 4 and September 10, Becerra holds 60% support, while Republican candidate Steve Hilton holds 38%.
This 22-point margin represents an increase from previous polling. An August survey by the Berkeley Institute of Governmental Studies and the Los Angeles Times placed Becerra at 55% and Hilton at 37%.
Hilton has criticized the PPIC findings, calling the poll ‘misleading’ and arguing that GOP turnout projections are inaccurate. He stated that Californians are seeking change and characterized Becerra as a ‘career politician.’ Conversely, Republican strategist Matt Klink suggested that unless a radical shift occurs, the election may result in a significant victory for Becerra.
