Catalonia activates INUNCAT flood alert due to heavy rain

Civil Protection in Catalonia has activated the INUNCAT special emergency plan for floods following forecasts of intense rainfall. The weather event is expected to impact the central coast and the Tarragona region, with heavy precipitation starting Monday evening and continuing through Tuesday.

The Meteorological Service of Catalonia (Meteocat) warns that certain areas, including Barcelonès, Baix Llobregat, Garraf, Baix Penedès, and Tarragonès, could see more than 20 liters per square meter in just 30 minutes. The highest risk occurs on Tuesday morning, where accumulations could exceed 60 liters per square meter in three hours in Baix Camp, Baix Penedès, and Tarragonès.

Authorities advise the public to avoid rivers, ravines, and underground passages. Residents are urged not to cross flooded areas on foot or in vehicles and to move to higher floors of buildings if water enters their premises.
