Tampa Bay Rays clinch postseason berth on Caminero walk-off homer

Junior Caminero hit a two-run, walk-off home run in the ninth inning to lead the Tampa Bay Rays to a 3-1 victory over the Houston Astros at Tropicana Field. The blast was Caminero’s 40th home run of the season, making him one of the few active players to record consecutive 40-home run seasons.

With this win, the Rays became the first Major League Baseball team to officially clinch a postseason berth for the 2026 season. The victory brings Tampa Bay’s record to 88-59, maintaining the best record in the American League for 115 days. The team currently holds a three-game lead over the New York Yankees in the AL East division.

This marks the Rays' first playoff appearance since 2023. The team’s performance has been bolstered by Caminero’s offensive production and a pitching staff that holds the lowest WHIP in baseball. The club now shifts focus toward securing the division title and the best overall league record to potentially earn a first-round bye.
