Xavier Solis, Kenosha County DA, has law license suspended

The Wisconsin Office of Lawyer Regulation has suspended the law license of Kenosha County District Attorney Xavier Solis. According to a memorandum issued Monday, Sept. 14, the suspension is due to Solis “willfully failing to cooperate with one or more OLR investigations into alleged misconduct.” The specific nature of the investigations has not been disclosed.

Solis, who was elected in 2024, has faced previous legal scrutiny. In February, Kenosha County Circuit Court Judge David Hughes sanctioned Solis for using artificial intelligence to generate a written response that contained “hallucinated” or false legal citations without disclosure.

Because Wisconsin state law requires a district attorney to hold a valid law license, the suspension prevents Solis from performing his official duties. The DA's office has reportedly experienced high turnover during his tenure, amid criticisms regarding missed deadlines and courtroom errors.
