Xaxim: Dog rescued from unsanitary home amid abuse allegations

A dog was rescued from a residence in the Guarany neighborhood of Xaxim, Santa Catarina, following reports of animal cruelty. The animal was found under a bed in a home filled with trash, animal feces, and a strong odor of ammonia.

The rescue was initiated by the NGO Voluntários Amigos dos Animais de Xaxim after receiving a report of mistreatment. Rescuers noted the dog was without food or water and exhibited fearful behavior toward its owner. During the intervention, a bleeding wound was discovered on the dog's rear area, leading volunteers to suspect sexual abuse. Veterinary exams are being conducted to confirm or rule out this suspicion.

The 56-year-old owner denied any abuse, claiming he was seeking someone to take the animal. In addition to the animal welfare concerns, the local Social Assistance Center (CREAS) has been mobilized to inspect the property due to health risks posed to the resident by the unsanitary living conditions.
