Xàbia: Mother and child hospitalized after suspected caustic juice poisoning

A five-year-old girl and her mother suffered severe poisoning and mouth injuries after consuming juice at a recreational area in Pinosol, Xàbia. The child reported the drink tasted bad, prompting her mother to taste it as well. Both experienced adverse reactions, with the child suffering more intense symptoms, including vomiting blood due to injuries in her mouth.

Emergency services, including the Guardia Civil, local police, SAMU, and the Red Cross, responded to the scene. The child was treated with intravenous fluids and transported to the hospital in Denia. The mother was also hospitalized.

Authorities suspect the presence of a caustic substance, such as ammonia, due to the physical injuries caused by the liquid. The Guardia Civil has seized the juice container for laboratory analysis to determine the exact nature of the substance.
