Xbox acquires publishing rights for Kojima Productions' PHYSINT

Xbox has secured the publishing rights for PHYSINT, an action-espionage game from Kojima Productions, following the project's departure from PlayStation Studios. The transition occurred after Sony decided to end its collaboration with the studio in mid-June 2026.

Reports indicate that Sony's decision was driven by budgetary concerns. While Sony's official statement described the move as a “difficult decision” made after careful consideration, industry reports suggest the project's high costs were a primary factor. This shift follows a period of increased scrutiny regarding game development budgets at Sony.

As part of this new partnership, Microsoft will host PHYSINT alongside two other Kojima Productions titles currently in development. The move marks a significant shift in the competitive landscape between Sony and Microsoft, as Kojima Productions loses access to Sony's Decima Engine and Columbia Pictures Studio but gains support from Xbox.
