Xbox and PlayStation differ in controller battery design

Gaming hardware manufacturers have adopted different power philosophies for their controllers. Xbox controllers typically utilize replaceable external batteries, whereas PlayStation controllers are designed with integrated rechargeable batteries.

Replaceable batteries offer the advantage of quick swaps to ensure continuous gameplay without needing a cable, though they can feel less modern compared to current USB-C charging standards. Integrated batteries provide a more seamless daily experience but face long-term degradation; once the internal capacity diminishes, users must either replace the entire controller or attempt a complex internal battery replacement.

Xbox users can bridge this gap using official rechargeable battery packs that charge via USB-C, offering a hybrid solution of convenience and flexibility.
