Xbox and PlayStation shift focus toward platform exclusivity

Major gaming companies Xbox and PlayStation appear to be shifting their marketing strategies to emphasize platform exclusivity over multiplatform availability.

Under the leadership of CEO Asha Sharma, Xbox has begun removing logos for competing platforms, such as PlayStation and Nintendo, from its official trailers. This change was observed in recent promotional material for Minecraft Dungeons 2, which previously highlighted all available platforms but now focuses solely on Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Cloud. This move follows previous fan backlash regarding the promotion of rival systems during Xbox events.

Simultaneously, PlayStation is doubling down on its “Only on PlayStation” branding. The company is reportedly moving away from its recent trend of releasing first-party single-player titles on PC, opting instead to focus on console exclusivity for major upcoming titles like Ghost of Yotei and Marvel’s Wolverine.
