Microsoft rolls out case‑by‑case Xbox exclusivity for select titles
Microsoft announced a new strategy for Xbox game releases at the Xbox Games Showcase 2026. The company said that future single‑player titles will be evaluated individually for exclusivity, while multiplayer and live‑service games will continue to launch on multiple platforms. First‑party titles Gears of War: E‑Day (2026) and Clockwork Revolution (2027) were confirmed as Xbox‑and‑PC exclusives. Content director Matt Booty explained, “When we announce a date, we also announce the platform… it will be decided case by case.” CEO Asha Sharma emphasized that the move is meant to give players compelling reasons to choose Xbox hardware.
Microsoft also reassured that previously announced multiplatform titles – such as Fable, Halo: Campaign Evolved, State of Decay 3, Senua, Spyro: A Realm Beyond, Forza Horizon 6 and other live‑service games – will remain available on PlayStation and other consoles. The policy signals a shift back toward exclusive flagship games while preserving the broader multiplayer ecosystem.
