Microsoft tests free ad‑supported Xbox Cloud Gaming for Insiders
Microsoft has begun a limited test of a free, ad‑supported version of Xbox Cloud Gaming. The trial is available only to members of the Xbox Insider program and allows participants to stream games they already own without a Game Pass subscription. Each streaming session is capped at one hour and is preceded by pre‑roll advertisements; no ads appear during gameplay. The ads are required to meet the same quality standards as Xbox content and must be clearly identified, according to five principles outlined by the company. The service works across Xbox consoles, Windows PCs, smartphones, tablets, compatible smart TVs and Meta Quest headsets, and is intended to lower the cost barrier for players, especially those using older hardware such as Xbox One. Microsoft says the test will gather feedback to refine the model before any broader rollout, which could help offset recent console price increases and expand access in markets where new consoles are expensive or hard to obtain.
