Xbox returns to exclusive titles after Game Pass price hike cuts subscribers
Microsoft’s Xbox division announced a clarified exclusivity strategy at the Xbox Games Showcase 2026. New titles such as *Gears of War: E‑Day* and *Clockwork Revolution* will launch only on Xbox consoles, with no plans to release them on PlayStation 5. Multiplayer and live‑service games will remain multiplatform, preserving access for PlayStation owners.
The shift follows a 50 % price increase to Xbox Game Pass in fall 2025, which the division’s new head Matthew Ball said led to the loss of “millions of subscribers.” The higher cost, reaching 669 CZK per month for Game Pass Ultimate, sparked a wave of cancellations. Under the leadership of Ash Sharma, Xbox aims to strengthen its console appeal by leveraging exclusive, high‑profile games to attract and retain players.
