Xbox to publish Physint after PlayStation cancels Kojima project

Kojima Productions has announced a new partnership with Xbox to publish the action-espionage title Physint, following its sudden cancellation by PlayStation Studios. Hideo Kojima stated that the studio received an unexpected notice from Sony in mid-June 2026 to terminate the collaboration.

Reports from Bloomberg and other analysts suggest Sony's decision was driven by several business concerns, including rising production costs, missed development milestones, and the project's potential lack of permanent exclusivity. Additionally, the commercial performance of the Death Stranding franchise, which reportedly did not meet Sony's revenue expectations, influenced the company's financial caution.

Under the new agreement, Microsoft will fund and publish Physint, with plans potentially including a simultaneous launch on Xbox and PC. The partnership between Kojima Productions and Xbox is expected to extend beyond gaming into film and television projects.
