Xbox Series X runs Nintendo Switch games via Eden emulator
An experimental port of the Eden emulator has enabled the Xbox Series X to run certain Nintendo Switch titles. Demonstrations shared on social media show games such as ‘Super Mario Odyssey’, ‘Super Mario Bros. Wonder’, and ‘Metroid Prime 4: Beyond’ successfully booting on Microsoft’s console.
The project utilizes the Xbox developer mode, which allows the execution of applications outside the standard commercial environment. This community-driven effort relies on Eden, an emulator developed following the shutdown of the Yuzu emulator in 2024.
While some technical milestones have been reached, the emulation remains highly experimental. Reports indicate that ‘Super Mario Bros. Wonder’ can achieve between 55 and 60 frames per second, but performance varies depending on shader compilation. Other projects, such as NXbox, report more significant stability issues, noting that games are currently difficult to play from start to finish. Additionally, hardware limitations persist; the application is restricted to approximately 5 GB of memory in Game Mode, which has prevented titles like ‘The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom’ from running.
