Physint moves to Xbox after Sony withdraws funding

Hideo Kojima has revealed that Sony Interactive Entertainment abruptly ceased funding for the upcoming action-espionage title Physint during a Zoom call in June. The sudden decision reportedly left Kojima shocked, as the studio, which employs approximately 200 people, faced potential financial instability and the risk of large-scale layoffs due to its status as an independent developer.

While Bloomberg reported that Sony's withdrawal was driven by concerns over missed deadlines, budget overruns, and the commercial performance of the Death Stranding franchise, Kojima Productions has urged skepticism regarding these claims. The studio stated that the reports lack official sources and emphasized that their relationship with PlayStation remains strong and that the company is currently in a healthy, profitable financial state.

Physint has since secured a new publishing partnership with Microsoft/Xbox. Hideo Kojima noted that while the project's future on PlayStation is currently undecided and rests with Xbox, Microsoft's recent strategy has leaned toward multi-platform availability. Development continues, with the studio currently experimenting with different graphics engines to build the title's technological foundation.
